Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios has revealed its vision for the next decade, the world of Lightspeed.

It’s all about enabling the next phase of growth and development for the gaming industry as well as connecting gamers and developers more closely in a common ecosystem. I’m not quite sure what that means, but check out the company’s explanation, including some material from CEO Jerry Chen. To me, it kind of looks like the Lightspeed version of the metaverse, the realm of all interconnected virtual worlds, as it does in novels like snow crash And the One ready player.

Lightspeed is owned by Tencent, and was formerly known as Lightspeed & Quantum Studios.

The Lightspeed Universe is a vision to create an ecosystem that connects gamers and developers around the world based on great stories, great gameplay, and next generation technology.

Co-developer of global movies PUBG Mobile (co-developed with Krafton, Inc.) and Apex Legends Mobile (co-developed with Electronic Arts), Lightspeed Studios has delivered more than 50 computer and mobile games to over four billion registered users across more than 200 countries and regions. .

Lightspeed World will create a world of experiences that gamers can enjoy anywhere, anytime and on any platform or device, where developers can develop games faster and easier. This vision underpins the next decade of global growth and development, driven by continued investments in exceptional talent, advanced research and development, and global platforms.

“The world of Lightspeed is a comprehensive concept with research and development at its core.” Chen said in a statement. “Integrating digital and real-world experiences and powered by Lightspeed’s development capabilities, we aspire to set a new standard for authentic interactive experiences across platforms and cultures. Our goal is to attract and inspire gamers and developers and leave a lasting and positive impression on generations to come.”

Lightspeed Studios has unveiled its specialized and experienced technical and technical centers, which are part of a global development platform serving Lightspeed and its partners.

New global offices

The world of Lightspeed is an ecosystem for gamers.

Lightspeed Studios’ Singapore office now serves as a hub for R&D innovation and integration, helping to coordinate the R&D pipeline and global operations as well as serving as a base for exploring cutting-edge technologies such as AR, VR and cloud gaming.

Making great games requires great talent, and Lightspeed studios are expanding into ten countries this year, growing their teams around the world, and hiring prominent developers who want to break new ground and make a global impact. Examples include the American studios – Lightspeed LA and Uncapped Games, led by world-class developers who were previously responsible for some of the most famous, innovative and most popular games in the world. LIGHTSPEED LA is building an ambitious open world game with advanced player-driven gameplay and enlightening storytelling. Uncapped Games creates an action-packed real-time strategy game for PC.

“The path ahead is uncertain, but our dream remains the same – to become one of the best game developers in the world. The Lightspeed Universe, the ecosystem that connects gamers and developers around the world, is our vision and blueprint for the next decade,” said Chen.

I asked if the Lightspeed universe is a metaverse. In response, Chen said, “Our vision for the next decade is to create an ecosystem that connects gamers and developers around the world. It is based on great stories, great gameplay and next-generation technology. It encompasses all genres, platforms, and all devices. It explores how IP and private experiences are translated With Lightspeed’s gaming to animation, TV and film, buildLightspeed’s R&D capabilities into a development platform for developers and partners.”

He added, “The world of Lightspeed thinks of the metaverse, but we think of it differently. We have a more broad and practical viewpoint. As the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds blur, new forms of connectivity and entertainment will emerge for brands, businesses and gamers.”

He said, “There is a huge opportunity to create new experiences and transform existing ones
At Lightspeed, we call this concept “Hyper Digital Reality”.

The company is setting it up now in part because of what it’s accomplished so far and how players have responded recently to PUBG Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile.

“We have built a strong foundation, are rapidly growing our teams and presence in multiple markets and are excited about the next phase of our global growth and development,” Chen said. “Now is the time for us to share our vision and approach with developers and gamers around the world. Brand new Lightspeed Studios supports the next phase of our journey.”

The new universe unites existing studios, games, and talent to focus on the future, which includes developing new games for the console and PC markets.

“It connects us more deeply with developers and players, and allows them to easily follow and participate in the world of Lightspeed,” said Chen. “It highlights the amazing people, great content, and great experiences that define Lightspeed Studios.”

Besides the aforementioned two games, Lightspeed is also developing a new open world survival game Undawn, which has great shooting experience and great crafting system.
