3 Fortnite pay-to-win variants (and 3 used to be)

What would Fortnite be without a selection of skins? Just another battle royale. With its third-person perspective (TPP), Fortnite provides an immersive experience that other games in this category cannot achieve. The irony of the recent news about Fortnite developing a first-person perspective (FPP) was the debate over what would happen to the skins.

Skins and outfits in Fortnite provide an expanded customization option for players to express themselves. Skins have always been an indispensable part of the game, and are the most beloved cosmetic item in the game. To provide players with an unparalleled experience, developers often collaborate with some of the biggest franchises in the world.

The pay-to-win look is another league in itself that has a loyal following among the players. Since micro-transactions is a major contributor to Epic’s revenue, developers continue to release new forms to perpetuate them.

Players are highly respected no matter when they were released and in this list we are going to look at some of these evergreen pay-to-win formats.

Jelly and two other Fortnite skins that players can take advantage of

1) Jelly

It was added to Fortnite in Chapter 2 of Season 1, although this skin is older than some of the other skins on the list, referring to the current season, this skin is one of the pay-to-win features that is slowly returning to the spotlight. Part of the Fish Food collection, this rare skin can be purchased at the Item Shop for 1200 V-bucks.

Skin returns to the Item Shop on average thirty days. This blue and pink colored skin goes well with the current style and theme of the game. With the introduction of the new Reality biome area, this skin is more important than ever. Smart players use the similar color scheme of Skin and Reality Saplings to their advantage.

Players hide inside Reality Sapling to camouflage themselves, which is a very clever move. Since the seedlings of reality can be planted anywhere on the map, this feature gives this skin an edge all over the map. Skins may not be very popular when they first become available, but they’re sure to pay off with this season.

2) Mystery

Part of the Marvel collection released in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4, this interactive skin can be obtained as a reward for reaching Level 80 of this season’s Battle Pass. One of the best pay-to-win skins to date, Mystique skin has similar interactive functionality to its actual superpowers.

Mystique has the ability to transform into any body shape or style, making it one of a kind. The Fortnite theme has the same functionality built in and can be very useful, especially for players in duo, trio or squad mode.

When eliminating opponents, players can transform into the same skin as dead players and can confuse others from the same team, just like a secret agent taking out an organization from within.

3) Snap

Introduced in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3, Snap skin is definitely driven to win. Unlike most of the skins on the list, it’s the corresponding emotions that make this skin what it is.

The Arm-y Guy movement, which can only be used with this skin, reduces the actual skin area, reducing the number of hit boxes. Players can dodge bullets during expressions. Although not very useful during constant combat, this skin still pays to win.

Pickly Patroller and 2 other once much needed Fortnite skins

1) Rotating Barbed

Released in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8, the Prickly Patroller is an exotic skin that can be purchased in the Item Shop for 800 V-bucks. The skin was last available in the Item Shop on March 2, 2022, and was paid to win.

Due to its green color and cactus-like appearance, the skin can easily blend in with the green portions of the map. The cactus-like appearance is useful in arid regions of the map where greenery is sparse, and cacti bloom abundantly. Over time, developments in the map have rendered this format somewhat obsolete.

2) Trooper

As a game piece, the Toy Trooper skin was first available in the Item Shop during Chapter 1 Season 9. This uncommon skin can be purchased in the Item Shop for 800 V-bucks and continues to make rounds in the Item Shop, returning every forty days on average.

This skin is also a pay-to-win. The green and gray iteration of this skin provides a very effective camouflage effect. At the time of its release, the island map was largely covered in dense foliage, making this skin the first choice for the player.

This skin was so effective that it underwent a series of updates to make the camouflage effect less efficient. Later, in an effort to balance it out, a red skin mod for the top of the game was also introduced.

3) Virtual skins

When players land on the island for the first time, these are the default skins they get. OG skins, these are notorious gifts for player ranks. If the player spends some time grinding in the game without buying any cosmetics, courtesy of Epic, at some point the player will definitely get the skin.

It is this perception of these skins that gives them an advantage over other skins, and most of the time, players who wear these skins are misunderstood for being novice players or bots. Smart players use this preconception to their advantage and often cheat other players.

Since these are virtual skins, they are confusing and can be called pay-to-win. While some players still use it, especially noobs, the pay-to-win effect is not as strong now.
